I am a Postdoctoral Associate in Biomedical Informatics working under the
direction of Dr. Amanda Hicks in the Department of Health Outcomes and Policy at the University of Florida. Previously, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Philosophy under the direction of Dr. Barry Smith at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB). My work, funded from 2012 to 2015 by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), also involved close collaboration with researchers at the UB Department of Biomedical Informatics. My interdisciplinary research aims at laying the groundwork for creating computer-assisted natural language definition writing tools leveraging ontological data. Such tools can be used both by terminologists and ontologists. My research interest is in definitions in dictionaries, technical manuals, and ontologies, and in the automation of definition processing, production, and checking. My research includes work on ontology mapping and versioning. My primary domains of expertise are applied ontology, terminology, and natural language processing.
